The Orchid Hotel is a well-known eco-friendly five-star hotel in Pune, featuring 396 guest rooms, five banquet halls, and five restaurants, spread across the OCC Wing and Orchid Wing.
Despite a tile façade that reduced thermal load, the hotel faced serious comfort issues and high energy consumption. To address these challenges, Aerosys performed a comprehensive chiller plant performance assessment.
Audit Findings (Observations)
- Both chiller plants were operating at poor efficiency
- Cooling towers underperformed, with effectiveness at only 36%
- AHUs lacked control valves → poor system control and uneven cooling
- FCU two-way control valves were non-functional
- Chilled water flow not balanced to design values → many AHUs starved for water, resulting in poor room temperature control
Solutions Implemented
Chiller Replacement
Installed new, energy-efficient chillers
Common Plant Room
Integrated the two wings into one chiller plant → reduced ancillary equipment operation, maintenance, and running costs
System Optimization
Installed VFDs on all ancillary equipment with flow demand controllers
Condenser Water Quality
Improved and maintained as per design standards
Control Valve Upgrades
Installed control valves on AHUs and replaced non-functional FCU two-way valves
Chilled Water Balancing
Restored flow distribution to design specifications

By implementing these measures, Aerosys delivered:
